The College of Agriculture, Food and Environment’s associate professor and director of graduate studies, Scarlett Wesley, Ph.D., discusses her predictions for the upcoming year’s fashion trends.

Welsey asserts that social media currently has the greatest impact on prevailing fashion trends. Someone on social media can literally overnight amass a sizable following, and marketers are utilizing this fact by collaborating with these influencers to reach consumers.
However, when inflation rises, we will observe a little decline in expenditure. This will increase the appeal of used apparel and motivate consumers to redesign their wardrobes.

Wesley: For at least the upcoming year, wide-leg pants and oversized apparel will be in style. Additionally, the idea of warm attire, as we continue to spend more time indoors and less time outdoors.
The tighter clothing trends are disappearing. More than ever, people want to feel at ease. The color palette will remain more subdued, with tranquil tones predominating in all facets of fashion.
Fashion predictions for 2023.
Welsey predicts that brown will remain popular as a neutral color. Pink hues will predominate, ranging from delicate baby pinks to intense burgundy and maroon hues. As we go into a more larger silhouette in 2023, wide leg pants will stay in style.

He thinks 2023 will be a turning point in the use of fashion to express individuality. Despite what may seem trendy, people are choosing what suits them and incorporating those fashion choices.

Welsey claims that recent trends include attire from the 1990s and the early 2000s, such as the popularity of flannel shirts, low rise jeans, and tiny skirts, as well as fitted items like vests.
